Welcome

Welcome to my professional e-portfolio.

This portfolio will serve as a space for gathering and sharing information, resources, and opinions which showcase my personal and professional interests, values, and growth, as I progress through the Master of Health Studies Program.

With this portfolio I aim to demonstrate an exploration and developing understanding of health, health leadership, and health promotion topics, the development of my own professional identity, and to become part of the broader conversation surrounding Canadian health care reform.

I welcome feedback, questions and correction as an important part of my ongoing learning and professional development.

Thank you for taking the time to explore this space.

Positionality Statement

I am privileged to identify as a young(er), middle-class, Caucasian Canadian female.

I have been fortunate to be afforded (ongoing) educational and professional opportunities in health disciplines and believe my worldview, including research interests and professional aspirations, is strongly influenced by the belief that health is a fundamental human right. As a social worker by education I am strongly rooted in the values of my profession and College and subscribe to the use of anti-oppressive practice.

As a mother to a child with a disability, I have strong beliefs, ideas, and opinions surrounding access to health (and other) services and opportunities for those on the disability spectrum. I remain aware of how my son’s reality is starkly different to that of myself and other "able" persons. I seek to better understand how to positively effect change in the systems from which he experiences unearned disadvantage. I recognize that, while different, his experiences, within and beyond our health system, may be comparable to those of other marginalized persons and groups.
